No two rides down Florida’s Silver River are ever the same. It had been several years since the I last saw these cute little relatives of ours, the wild monkeys. Stories have placed these little guys as descendants from an old black and white Tarzan filming. Other stories place their origins as escapees from a small zoo long ago defunked. Either way they sure are interesting to watch. The focus of the day seemed to be all the delicious new leafs springing from all the awakening trees.

Later, down river, we started to float past some of the bigger, older (prehistoric) residents. We spotted about eighteen gators from little foot long babies, to six to ten foot beasts.

The Silver River, other than the historic theme park at it’s head waters, is completely pristine. Not a single house, lot, or cleared area can be seen along its entire stretch. I think because of this, it’s very easy to imagine what this river must have looked like 500, 1,000, or even 5,000 years ago.
