Video Photo Tip ~ Zero Out Your Camera

Zeroing out simply means, after a shoot, take time to return all your camera’s settings back to something average or reasonable. What we’re trying to do is prevent picking up the camera tomorrow and unexpectedly begin shooting with say; a manual shutter speed set to 30″, or a white balance set on tungsten, or the lens focus set to manual, when you think it’s auto focusing. It takes a moment, but will prevent lost images the next time you pick up the camera and start shooting.

Some items to ZERO OUT and return to normal or just check, include:

  • Shooting mode (P,M,A,S)
  • ISO
  • Aperture
  • Shutter Speed
  • Lens Autofocus
  • White Balance
  • EV Exposure Compensation
  • Image Quality
  • File Format (JPEG or RAW)
  • Flash mode
  • etc., etc., etc.

This one concept can save countless hours of frustration.
