Wow that was a lot of work! Nice review. Enjoyed it.

I would very much like to see how to make this miso soup, but the blog post seems to be well done. I hope to see more posts in the future.

Jenny

What perfect timing. I was asked to do photos for a cook book and I said, “Sure if I can figure out how to do it.” Now I am going to take your little set up there and try it out. Awesome!

Kent, once again congratulations on you blog. Very clearly explained de f. stops. And the food photography is my favorite.
Regards.

Great work!
The soup looks delicious and the photography tips will sure help me, I dismantle my kitchen daily to get photos taken for my blog and in a funny way I’m glad to see I’m not the only one. I’d love a prof. light but for now make due with what works for me…I should take a photo of my dinky set up to give you a good laugh! I love the foam reflector board and keep hearing it’s the item to use….and now can really SEE (thank you) what the difference really is. Thanks for finding me on twitter I look forward to seeing more of your great work!

Great stuff, thank you for the tips. As I am increasingly doing recipes I needed some pointers for getting decent food shots – it looks fiddly but it’s worth it, for sure.

Followed the link via twitter. Love the blog, very generous of you to share your expertise – keep up the good work!

Wow!!!!!! I am impressed.

I have started photographing some things we bake and have started using a “set” of bakeware or dishes just for photography. It photographs so well.

Kristi,
I’m glad you’re getting some good stuff. It’s exciting when it all comes together!

Thanks for the tips, I never thought about using a reflector, quite a noticeable improvement when one is used.

The soup and photo look great. This article just reminds me of how much I do not want to be a food photographer. LOL

Well then that makes me a “little nutty” now doesn’t it? It takes about 100-200 photos, several hours, lighting, styling, and cooking for me to post just one recipe. The key ingredients (pun intended) for food photography really comes down to lighting. Composition and styling are key, but lately the trend is SIMPLICITY and making you want to lick the food off the page. Ha. Unless it’s for ads, magazines, etc. Then the styling will likely be more important. Using reflectors (make-up mirrors work wonders in your own home) is a great way to bounce the light and rid the food of shadows. Great post! Right up my alley as you can tell! Happy Food Snapping!

Early Morning Space Shuttle Photo Shoot

Early Morning Space Shuttle Photo Shoot “It was an early morning yesterday (actually today), I was up before the dawn”. I’m still a little slap-happy thinking of Super Tramp’s “Goodbye Stranger” song. We, my wife, two teen sons, teen nephew, our 4 month old Chihauhau, and I all got up...

These are phenomenal… stunning, actually. I would’ve been totally freaked out by 1/500 – I’m so glad you weren’t. Keep on clickin’ Mr. Weakley, you have a gift.

We had such an amazing time it was well worth waking up at 4am. Your photos are amazing! We saw it live & were not able to see what you shot. Your Photos completed our experience because now our eyes can see what our ears heard making the memory sensational :)

Speaking of stunning, get a load of your site http://www.artisticlunasea.com/ very nice work indeed!! Keep it up!!

I don’t know which I like more….the photos or your tale of the trip. As usual, all of your work is utterly AMAZING!!!!! GREAT JOB, KENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing these!

Kent, AWESOME pictures. You somehow managed to bring me back to all the launches I saw when I lived in Cocoa. Great job!!! You are on talented man.

Hilda

The pictures were amazing. Thank you Kent for taking Jon Paul. He had an awesome time. You are incredible!!!!!

Great shots! Sounds like you had a great time hunting the elusive STS.

Beautiful colors & composition in #2! And #4 reminds me of a jellyfish! Beautiful work!

These really are some very dramatic shots. I’m most envious. Am I right in saying that there aren’t going to be many more space flights, hasn’t Obama cut the budget?

As I understand, the current SS program will be ending with the next two launches, as scheduled. The newly designed SS program has been scratched by Pres BO

great experience, dude! thanks for this great post wow… it’s very wonderful report.

Kevin

Beautiful shots. The first thing I thought of when I saw #6 was “Chinese dragon”.

Hi Kent…Looking forward to your class this Sat.
My wife makes jewelry and has asked I photo some of for a website she has.
I have a small light box, black back drop and a Nikon 40Dx…but can’t seem to get the lighting right on the silver jewelry…some portions are over exposed and shiny …while other parts remain in the shadows.
I have lamps on the two sides and above the objects

any suggestions you may have would be appreciated…

thanks again
Paul

Hi Paul, Good to hear from you, and I’m looking forward to class this weekend too. Shiny objects can be tricky. You need to bounce light all around to make them sparkle and you need to limit reflection around them one way to do this is with a light tent kit like this one Let me know if this helps.

Hello, I’m a new subscriber I found you through MY 3 boybarians. I was playing around with my point and shoot yesterday and took some photos of my flowers in the grass and pics of the grass. It was really interesting to see how lighting and focusing can make a difference in your photos. Thanks for the extra points to try out. Looking forward to going through your older posts. Have a great weekend!

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge & tips. I felt a bit “inspired” to go out & attempt some shots of our new spring flowers. I have limited equipment, but am enjoying finding ways to work with what I have.

Trying to find time to go through more of your blog & tips – would love to find tips on ‘action’ shots. My oldest 2 are in sports & marching & concert band, my youngest in orchestra.
