Photo Tip ~ Sunrise Sunset Photos, Get The Time Right

Photo Tip ~  Get the right sunrise and sunset time for your photo shoot

SunsetChart1

I can’t think of much worse than missing a sunrise or sunset simply because you didn’t know the right time! There’s a great website that makes this very simple – Gaisma. Simply select your location, check the date, and your times will be posted. The chart also displays twilight windows, sun path diagrams, plus a really cool real-time sun/shade map of the world. Check it out before heading out to get your next sunrise or sunset masterpiece. By the way, the two little hick-ups in the chart are the daylight savings time switch. Kinda cool in a geeky I-love-chart-data kinda way.

Also, If you want to know where the sun (or moon) will break the horizon, be sure to check out the Photographer’s Ephemeris.

Pretty cool. We use PhotoOne here at the studio, and it shows sunrise and sunset times too. Always nice to have a backup for on the road though.

Great tip! Time of sunset is one of the first things I check when I talk to a new potential client so I can discuss portrait timing and explain “the golden hour.”

Great site. Much better than the one I’ve been using. Thanks for sharing!!
