Photo Contest Winner for May ~ Cheryl Welch

After many hours of painstaking review, decision making, and elimination, we have a winner for the May Photo Contest. Drum roll please…the winner, from California is Cheryl Welch.

While there were many great photos entered, Cheryl’s image stood out for several reasons; the quality and color of light, the simplified composition, depth of field, innocence and captivating eyes of the precious young girl and the overall soft warm mood the image conveys.

Thank you to everyone who participated. Stay tuned to see Cheryl’s prize. Also the next contest will begin July 1, so keeping taking and sharing great images. Who knows, you might be next.

First thing I see when I look at this picture is the eyes, then the lips (the red contrast against the rest of the pic). Then the foreground grass and her hands make a good composition being together the way they are. Is she holding grass? The natural yellow and green colors work great in the background with her completion. I love the lighting! Even down behind her hair you still have good color and not dark shadows.

Thank you for your nice words! This shot was actually a candid moment. I was setting up for a family shot. Looked up and there she was standing there in that perfect light, with the grass in her hand. I simply walked over closer to her, bent down and gently called her name, (which is Andrea). I remember feeling pretty excited to have capture that moment!

Love the story. It matches well with that quote about luck. I think it goes something like “luck comes to those who are prepared for it”.
