Take one extremely talented wildlife photographer (Mark Emery), a couple hundred thousand miles of travel, along with a couple thousand rolls of 35mm slide film, and a couple decades, and what do you get? Answer – you get amazing National Geographic worthy images and even more rejects. Yes it’s true, just like the great hitters in baseball, even the best photographers have more duds than hits.
After a long winters weeding of ‘not quite good enough’ images, large piles of rejected slides began filling garbage bags (yes, plural). It was too painful to simply throw them out. What to do? Time to be silly. So after much deliberation, it was decided that Mark and his massive pile of engulfing slides must be documented, portrait time.

For everyone who knows Mark, you know one things for sure – you’re not going long without something funny happening. When Mark first mentioned this slide portrait thing, my gears were spinning. After transforming our garage to the proper configuration and making some custom props, we were in business, and Mark’s slides had a proper send off.
