Capturing Time with Photography

Capturing Time with Photography  Capturing Time with Photography There is this tree, ‘My Tree’, not far from me that has become a part of my life. In many ways she is a friend and, unfortunately her days are numbered. The eventual end to this inspirational figure is nearing and I have felt the call to...

awesome.

What you have done here is wonderful. The orbit is amazing, the four-section finish is stunning and your full-moon photo is breath taking. Your tree is a treasure to remember
I have photographed the opening and closing of everlasting/paper daisies in my garden through a day in hourly shots too. The greatest action was early morning and early evening. Quite a wonderful experience. One of the sequences is here

I also collated photos from one daisy over two months of changes. I have learnt so much about these flowers from doing this. Nothing as stunning as your photos but a delight for me to trace and watch.

This.is.brilliant!

Are you going to start selling these? This is such a signature piece for you… like the horses that are infrared are. Can’t wait to see your stuff in a gallery someday!

Really cool, this just prove how creative you are. Enjoyed yesterday, great shoot, can’t wait to see your work…

I’m *lovin* these!!! So cool! I’m loving that last collage of the 4 different pieces put together.

Journey With Camera ~ Where It Started

Journey With Camera ~ Where It Started  Journey With Camera ~ Where It Started In his 2005 commencement address to Stanford University graduates, Steve Jobs explained how we can only connect the dots looking back, never forward. I’ve found this to be so true, especially when reminiscing about particular photography experiences that have shaped who...

Oh my word.

Many thoughts while reading this one, Kent! . . . . What were you thinking running off like that?! ::snort:: Crazy youngin’ . . . But, what a great memory you made. I loved this! Keep sharing. :D

Thanks Ruthanne,
Yes, it’s really scary looking at this now as a parent. lol But, still it’s was one of those thing I’d never change. Take care. :)

Kat

I’m laughing so hard here, imagining what wonderful adventure you were brave/crazy enough to go on without a peep to the “parental figures”…I love the way you weighted the consequences…pictures?? parents getting mad?? PHOTO SHOOT..what could happen..nothing!! Hilarious sounds like something I would have pulled! Well, maybe NOT drive out of state, but definitely push the boundaries when the parents were gone!! Oh yea…I would love to hear more dots in your life!! Having your own children brings reality to why parents worry!!!:)

This is FANTASTIC Kent – thanks so much for sharing your story. I love hearing what drives people into photographhy

Martha "Mott" Smith

Very entertaining! I would love to hear more. In retrospect, we wonder how we survived some of the things we did, don’t we? The first time I went to New York City, I could hardly wait to see the Statue of Liberty! She is a beauty! I would love to hear more of what got you to where you are. God has a much bigger plan for us than we can even begin to imagine. Please continue your journey with us!

I enjoyed reading this post! I actually lol at work :) . I really should be working. I can’t imagine doing this as a teenager. Thank you for sharing. By the way, how long did you keep the car?

:) I had that car until my Junior year of college when someone decided to ‘fail to yield on a left turn” in front of me. I was fine, as my car was basically a tank, but the guy that pulled in front of me had his entire rear axle (tires and all) cleanly removed from his vehicle. LOL!

Melissa

WOW…what a great story and thanks so much for sharing with us! I’m very anxious to hear more. BTW…I love your photography style…just beautiful.

OMGoodness! Glad you were fine and the car was tank. They don’t build cars like that anymore.

Convert Your DSLR to Infrared

Convert Your DSLR to Infrared  Convert Your DSLR to Infrared Ever thought of shooting infrared images with your DSLR? Well it’s very possible and easily achieved. First of all it’s important to know that some DLSR cameras will “see” infrared light right out of the box. Most, however do not, but there’s a way to...

wow.. i wanna try looks great….

Kevin P

Love your site and photos, Ken.

I’ve looked at having a camera converted for IR, but have waffled on taking the plunge so far. My dilemma is this: I upgraded from a Canon 20D to a 7D for the higher resolution, and I’ve considered having the 20D converted. I’m just wondering whether I might be disappointed with the lower resolution if I convert the 20D to IR. Any thoughts?

Kevin P

I’ve looked at having a camera converted for a while, but haven’t taken the plunge yet. I have an old Canon 20D that I replaced with a 7D; do you think the lower resolution of the 20D would be an issue if converted to iR?

The resolution will not effect the IR aspect, it will simply be whatever res the camera is. It will work fine, in other words.

Hi Kent,

Had my old Pentax DS converted last year. Gave it a whole new lease of life.

Norma Sobal

Hi Kent, I was surfing the net looking for Black and White Infrared photography and found your vid on UTUbe. I was soooo happy :) )). I love infrared!!!!!. I do have a Nikon D70 that was converted with 665nm. I would love to do the black and white photography but not sure how. The funny thing is that I do have infrared color pictures that I did a while back, but with my moms passing I stopped all together and now I can’t seem to remember how.

Do you have any tutorials on the processing techniques?

I signed up for the composition class and looking forward to that. Well, I can go on but I’m afraid I’ll bore you. Thanks
Norma

Thank you so much for signing up. I don’t currently have any tutorials on this processing technique, but I will consider this.

Love my Nikon D100 converted by LifePixel a few years back.

Halfway There ~ P52

Halfway There ~ P52  Halfway There ~ P52 It happened sometime over Christmas break last year. I was browsing the ever popular and informative site my3boybarians.com and came across this P52 thingy. I wasn’t sure what it was at first. Of course I’ve heard of photo Project 365 programs before, but like really, who’s taking...

I’ve really enjoyed it too. Can you believe I am doing two different weekly challenges? I admit though that I spend more time on the other one because each week is a theme that I need to produce. You can see my ‘little avocado” challenge on my flickr page. (and they are voted on, which can be good and bad)

I’ll jump in and sing Darcy’s praises, too. I’ve learned a great deal this year through her blog and yours. My P52 is nowhere nearly as amazing as yours, but as you say it’s the process and the memories you’re making along the way that really count. This first year with my new Nikon will be documented. (I’m already planning my photo book Christmas present for myself!) I’ve come a long way with a long way to go. I like the challenge with no theme because I’m doing this for my own week by week memories which involves a lot of family…especially a granddaughter. ;) Maybe by next year I’ll feel more comfortable “in my shoes”. I know I’ve learned so much just looking at everyone’s great shots. Thanks to you and Darcy for challenging us to stretch!

Darcy was the very first photographer blogger that I started learning from – love her!

Your pix for this are PHENOMENAL Kent! Oooo and loved your fireworks challenge too!

It’s all about making photos that make you happy, period. Thanks for sharing
